Gifted And Mislabelled, The Myth Of ADHD In Children

Thomas Edison the great inventor was expelled from school for what today’s world would label as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). With 1093 patents, he is without hesitation the most creative man who ever lived on Earth. It was his mother who helped him regain the self-esteem he lost and lead him to total success. He then became a great scientist and a great businessman later in his life. There are numerous instances for people who made it to the top after being rejected by the conventional systems because of the so called unacceptable traits. Therefore labelling children that exhibit traits of creativity, impulsiveness and distractibility as ADHD and calling them abnormal is hardly acceptable. If children with such traits cannot thrive in a conventional cybernetic system, it is the system that is in question and not the traits. Nearly 5.2 million children below 17 have been diagnosed with ADHD in US alone and the stats predict that the undiagnosed stats are as high as 1 in every 10 children.

The traits of what is labelled as ADHD are the behaviours of children who badly want to escape the wrong system and be free. They want to focus on the beautiful and simple things in life rather than focus on things that are not going to enrich their lives. They are simply refusing to add to the vanity they are already going through. Not everyone is the same. In the society there is a balance between creative people and performing people and if the traits weren’t thus distributed, it would create conflict and there wouldn’t be a net outcome. What happens in the modern world is that creativity is being suppressed. Ritalin the stimulant drug presented as an ideal solution by drug companies has killed a lot of innocent children. For drug companies, it’s all about profit; therefore they make sure the medical bodies are well nourished in maintaining the absurd definition of a disorder. So many innocent lives are being destroyed for the sake of money. Ritalin being a relatively expensive drug; imagine the profit the companies can make with 5 million customers! The imagination, creativity and life within the children are drained out and they eventually become dumb machines that run the rat race. That’s what the corporate world demands; they want children to blindly pursue the so called success.

We need parents that emotionally understand their children. We need parents who encourage their children regardless of what the world says. Yes, you are worried when the teachers say they are not normal, you are humiliated when your child among all others get a very bad report card, but it takes courage to stick to your dream. If you are not going to hold on to the dream you have for your child, then you can’t expect your children to pursue a dream. It is the confidence you have in them that’s going to make them geniuses. The conventional system is very scary because it presents itself as an ultimate reality where you have to be practical about the whole thing. Without the qualifications, your child would not make it, without proper education they won’t be able to survive, they might say. If you see a genius in your child, facilitate his or her talent, support and most of all, have faith!
